Double Dog Day: Gordo and Capitan the English Bulldogs

Posted on June 12, 2010 by Adam Lang

These guys are bulldogs (aka English bulldogs), not to be confused with Old English bulldogs (aka Olde Englishe Bulldogges). Or, for that matter, bulgogi, even if it is both old and English.

A few more pictures, after the break.

Edit: Wow, that was horribly edited. Not sure if I did that myself, or if the WordPress software somehow mangled the post. In either case, it’s what happens when I queue a bunch of stuff up and then go off on a trip. Should be fixed now… I hope.

Bulldogs always look ridiculous to me, but when they're in a posture like the one in front they're especially goofy.

Dog of the Day: Jack Russell Terrier Mix

Posted on June 11, 2010 by Adam Lang

Saw this guy on the way to work in the morning. I wish I had a job where I could bring my dog along on a regular basis. (First things first, of course: I wish I had a dog!)

Two more pictures after the break.

It must be 'take your dog to work day!'

Dog of the Day: Lab Puppy

Posted on June 10, 2010 by Adam Lang

Due to lease-related mental breakdown, Autumn and I both need a puppy today.

Two more images of His Royal Cuteness after the break.

Braving the sharp little puppy teeth in search of a tasty tasty cigarette butt.

Double Dog Day: Ula and Ivan the Boxers

Posted on June 9, 2010 by Adam Lang

A couple of dogs of coworker of mine, Ula and Ivan are a pair of goofballs of the boxer variety. They don’t live in San Francisco but they do come in to visit periodically, so they count. (Good thing I get to make the rules here, huh?)

Four more pictures, two of each goofball, after the break.

How in the world did she get these two to pose like this? They look totally out of character.

Dog of the Day: Boo the Great Pyrenees

Posted on June 8, 2010 by Adam Lang

Yesterday’s dog was a tough act to follow, in many ways. (Not least of which was his many fans!) I had to do a little digging through my pictures to find someone worthy of sharing the stage with Nesta, but I think I succeeded.

I ran across this guy while wandering along Fillmore one evening, and I’m proud to say that I identified his possible breeds myself (with the help of Wikipedia.) Autumn confirmed that he was most likely either a kuvasz or a Great Pyrenees. (Edit: actually, Autumn thinks this is a Maremma Sheepdog. And, having now met a kuvasz, I can tell you, it definitely isn’t one of those. Aaaand editing again, because now, over a year later, I ran into this guy again, this time with his dad, and he is a Great Pyrenees named Boo!)

Four more pictures after the break.

As I approached him for the first time, I thought, 'that's odd, someone's left their polar bear tied up outside a coffee shop!'

Dog of the Day: Nesta, the Chow/Golden/German Shepherd/Husky

Posted on June 7, 2010 by Adam Lang

Sort of cheating on the identification here, as this is what the dog owner heard from the shelter that he got the pup from. If I recall correctly, this dog is over 10 years old, but you wouldn’t know it from either the teeth or the attitude.

Anyway, there’s definitely something of all four of those breeds in there. Including the ‘I love everyone!’ attitude from the Golden.

Five more pictures, including a tailio close-up, after the break.

Update: Wow, lots of attention for Nesta today! Welcome to DoSF, everyone. Hope you hang around, though I’ll admit that not every dog is quite as spectacular as Nesta is. (Oh, and I’ll try to fix the two-star rating for Tucker’s mom. Not 100% sure how to, but it can’t be too hard… right?)

Super-soft fur. You just want to bury your face in it. And he isn't a smelly dog, so you wouldn't even regret it.

Dog of the Day: Terrier Mix

Posted on June 6, 2010 by Adam Lang

Sorry… too tired for a post tonight. I’ll do one in the morning. All right, here’s your dog fix.

Autumn doesn’t really know what this guy is, except to say that he’s ‘some kind of terrier mix’. Well, we can work with that. Two more pictures after the break.

I love the fur. So scruffy that you can actually see the scruff in his shadow.

Dog of the Day: Mastiff Mix

Posted on June 5, 2010 by Adam Lang

I didn’t have much idea what this guy was, so I went to the expert. Autumn says he’s some kind of mastiff mix, but she’s not sure what it’s mixed with. Mastiff is good enough for him to get in my good graces, though.

Also, dogs with bandanas? An exception to the ‘clothes on dogs are bad’ rule. I don’t know why, but a bandana can make just about any dog just a tiny little bit more awesome.

Three more pictures after the break. (Oh, and in case you’re wondering about the hovertext: Baroodhism is our word for Buddhism for dogs, who have always seemed to us to have the buddha nature in many ways. As you can see below, though, they do seem to have a little difficulty with the whole ‘forsaking desires’ part of the package.)

I'd never seen a brindled dog that wasn't part pit bull, but Autumn says pit bulls' brindling came from mastiffs originally.

Dog of the Day: Dubious Dachshund

Posted on June 4, 2010 by Adam Lang

In honor of Gary Coleman, I post this dachshund. No, the breed has nothing to do with it… I just feel like this is totally a ‘whatchoo talkin’ about Willis’ kind of expression.

Also, please tell me that that is a varsity jacket. Because a wiener dog in a varsity jacket is awesome.

Dog of the Day: Half-Corgi, Half-Lab

Posted on June 3, 2010 by Adam Lang

Half lab, half corgi? (Not sure which kind of corgi.) Oh, man, that’s got to be one awesome dog.

Second picture after the break.

This guy just would not stay in one place for long enough for me to photograph him. Only now do I realize that we were standing directly outside of a deli.
