Dog of the Day: Jemma the Bernese Mountain Dog

Have some old pictures of Jemma from early 2013, and I appreciate the goofiness, so here you go.

That’s Autumn in the background. She was dogsitting the fearsome twosome.

Goofiness gives way to tiredness.

Dog of the Day: Miniature Poodle

I’m back from the hospital and able to sit in front of a computer for short periods, so you guys get a short post from me today.

Grey Poodle In A Wagon Being Pulled By A Child

Got to admit, that’s a pretty cute way to walk your dog.

I hope she was just tired, and not injured or something.

Dog of the Day: Nora the Senior Wolfhound Mix

I’m used to dogs that look like Nora but are 1/10 her size. They’re also usually not nearly as friendly as she is.

Writing this post from a hospital bed. My back decided that it was going to go into spasms this morning and attempts to propitiate were not wholly successful. Morphine and muscle relaxants, wheee.

Edit: How careless of me to forget to mention that Nora has her very own blog, at http://dailynora.tumblr.com. Some of the pictures there are awwwww-inspiring.

Dog of the Day: A Tail of Two Jacksons: Jackson #2, Golden Retriever

This is the second Jackson I met, outside of our local ice cream shop (the original, first-ever Swensen’s, and the only Swensen’s where they still make the ice cream by hand in the back room). He is a typical golden retriever in at least one way: when I met him, he was staring longingly at the remains of an ice cream cone (just the cone) that someone had dropped on the sidewalk, and that mom (terribly unfairly) was not letting him have quite enough leash to get to. When I said hello, he immediately stopped looking at the cone. He would, I think, have completely ignored it even if he’d been off-leash… meeting a new friend and getting a belly rub was much more important than an ice cream cone.

This is Jackson staring fixedly at the ice cream cone.

And there’s the ‘oh look a new person!’ smile.

Look at that sweet expression. That is one happy dog.

There’s the ‘noble dog’ pose.

Dog of the Day: A Tail of Two Jacksons: Jackson #1, Beagle Puppy

Last Sunday, I ran into two dogs named Jackson, roughly five blocks from one another. I don’t think this has happened to me before. They were quite different, as you’ll see (I’m posting the second one tomorrow) but I like to think that when they meet they’ll become best buddies.

Beagle Puppy Sniffing the Ground

This Jackson is about twelve weeks old.

Beagle Puppy

The pup was very distractible. It took a fair bit of effort to get him to look in my direction.

Beagle Puppy Tilting His Head

When he started looking in my direction I promptly melted. The puppydog eyes!

I need some kind of camera harness, so I can get pictures and pet puppies at the same time.

Dog of the Day: Older Husky

So I saw this pup the day after I ran into yesterday’s. I don’t have his name either, but… well… husky. Still awesome.

Silver-And-White Siberian Husky

It was pretty warm out. He’d found a place to lie that was out of the sun. Mostly.

Blue-Eyed Siberian Husky Glaring.

They really can look a little intimidating, can’t they?

There’s a grin.

Dog of the Day: Young Husky

Snapped a few pics of this pup as he was going by, while I was taking pictures of another dog. So I don’t have his vital statistics or anything. But I’m pretty sure he was less than a year old. And I’m absolutely certain he’s awesome. Because, y’know, husky.

Young Black-and-White Siberian Husky

This is him trying his hardest to play with the other dog I was photographing.

Young Black-and-White Siberian Husky

He definitely has the ‘slightly crazed’ husky expression down pat.

He also investigated me on the way by, though I don’t think I was very interesting.

Caturday Supplement: Macy’s Window Kitten

A caturday treat for you. But only one. Wouldn’t want you to get all spoiled.

Black And White Kitten

I need some fuzz therapy today. A kitten would do nicely.

Dog of the Day: Rocket the Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy Again

Let’s check in on Rocket and see how she’s doing. (Or, at least, how she was doing in mid-April, when I ran into her for the second time… the first time being here.)

Tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

Look at the little poof of white at the end of her tail.

That teeny little splotch of pink on the nose is better than a fingerprint for telling her from every other ridiculously adorable mini Aussie puppy out there.

Woman With Tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

They’re having lots of adventures together. This one is called ‘waiting patiently for the light to change’.

Dog of the Day: Calvin the Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie Mix

There’s a mix I haven’t heard of before. If they’re lucky, Calvin is as smart and long-lived as a border collie, but as easy-going, cheerful, and happy (and non-neurotic) as a Berner. But, let’s be honest here: no matter what he inherited from which breed, he’s got to be awesome. Because there’s nowhere for him to inherit anything non-awesome from.

Tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie Mix

I saw Calvin when I was on my way back to work after lunch. And said to my coworker, “You head back… I’ll be a little while.”

Tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie Mix

Oh boy. With an expression like that, I have to think maybe Calvin (named after Calvin & Hobbes, natch) deserves his name.

Tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie Mix

But with a smile like that, nobody could possibly stay mad at him.

Stern expression. (With goofy mustache though.)
