Dog of the Day: Black Labrador Retriever Puppy

Ran into this little pup outside of a local eatery, where she was trying hard to lick every single person who walked by.

The cafe even had outdoor tables, and yet they left their puppy outside and went to eat inside. What is wrong with these people?

Black Labrador Retriever Puppy

Goofy face.

Someone got a little bit tangled up. A direct result of too much enthusiasm.

Double Dog Day: Some Old Friends!

Autumn and I were out wandering around the Marina and the Fisherman’s Wharf areas today, and we got a couple of surprises. First we ran into the cutest little long-haired miniature dachshund. And when I heard that her name was ‘Chloe’, I thought, ‘Wow, that sounds familiar!’ And sure enough, I found her. She was one of the first dogs I took a picture of, in December of 2009, and was one of the first 50 I posted, in January of 2010. She is just as adorable now (4.5 years old) as she was almost four years ago, I think you’ll agree.

Cream Long-Haired Dachshund

Those ears are just as silky as you think they are.

Cream Long-Haired Dachshund

They really do look like miniature golden retrievers with short legs.

Cream Long-Haired Dachshund

Aww man. Disgruntled dachshund.

Cream Long-Haired Dachshund

I really love seeing old friends.

And speaking of old friends… only half an hour or so later, Autumn and I were sitting outside a cafe and enjoying the sunshine when who should walk by, but our old friend (and repeat star) Baloo!

Yorkshire Terrier and Swedish Vallhund Mix

Last couple times I saw him, Baloo was with a Yorkie named ‘Romeo’. This isn’t Romeo, although I didn’t get her name. Apparently Baloo just likes Yorkies! (But hey, who doesn’t?)

Swedish Vallhund Mix

This is the first time I’ve seen Baloo’s serious face.

I think he was headed somewhere important.

Slitherday Supplement: California King Snake

Wish I could have said hello to this pretty snake at the Aquarium of the Bay, but alas, he was behind glass. His species is (I think?) ‘King Snake’, but he was extra-long. Hence the title.

King Snake

I like snakes, but I’m too aware of their limitations to have one as a pet. If they were as smart as dogs? Totally would.

King Snake

He didn’t seem too impressed with me, really.

Dog of the Day: Penny the Jack Russell Terrier/Shetland Sheepdog Mix

I was on a sailboat today (part of a ‘Engineering Week’ trip). I was only on there for three and a half hours or so, from 1 to 4:30, and it’s now been four hours since I was on it… and for some reason everything just started moving up and down again. Weird.

This dog, on the other hand, is not weird. She is just cute. Never seen a mix quite like her.

Shetland Sheepdog/Jack Russell Terrier Mix

A little bit shy…

Shetland Sheepdog/Jack Russell Terrier Mix

…but not TOO shy.

Dog of the Day: Hüsky Dü (With Bonus Westies)

That’s not his name, I just felt compelled to make the joke. (Hey, could be worse, it could have been another Devo joke.)

Black and White Husky and Two West Highland White Terriers

For some reason this husky was just dead set on getting the heck out of the dog park.

Black and White Siberian Husky

Look at that: heterochromia AND a stripey nose!

Black and White Siberian Husky

Wasn’t scared of other dogs, or of people. Just wanted to go home. Well, they do say that huskies have minds of their own… I wonder what was going on in his?

Double Dog Day: Rhodesian Ridgeback and Pembroke Welsh Corgi

These two look like polar opposites, but they were having a grand old time together. Largely because the corgi had the ball, and the ridgeback didn’t care about it.

Also, extra special bonus chocolate goldendoodle!

Chocolate Goldendoodle and Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Look at that teddy bear.

Rhodesian Ridgeback and Fawn Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Definitely polar opposites. Super-long-legs scrawny vs sausage with little bitty legs.

Rhodesian Ridgeback and Fawn Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Patented corgi grin.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Someone else has a pretty good grin too.

Fawn Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Okay, that grin is almost big enough to be disturbing.

Dog of the Day: Salt and Pepper Schnauzer

I said we’d be seeing a little more of this guy, and here he is. I think the salt-and-pepper coloration on the schnauzer is one of the prettiest dog coats I’ve ever seen. But then, I have a weakness for eyebrows.

Salt and Pepper Standard Schnauzer with Other Dogs

Pretty good assortment in the background: husky, ridgeback, English cocker spaniel (I think?), and a Chihuahua.

Salt and Pepper Standard Schnauzer

There are the eyebrows. Also, that perfect little fold in the ears is pretty cute too.

I’ve just ordered a passel of Dogs of San Francisco 2014 calendars! They’ll be going on sale when they come in, which should be in a week or so. They are maximally adorable and minimally expensive. And they have this gorgeous fellow on the front. Who could possibly resist?

Caturday Supplement: Oakland Kitty

Another kitty from my rambles in Oakland.

Black Tuxedo Cat

Cat noses fascinate me. They come in so many different colors.

Dog of the Day: Goldendoodle and the Cone of Happy

One day, a really nice vet came along and fastened a magic cone of happy to this dog’s neck, and said, “You will magically get treats and everyone will be your friend while you have this cone on.” And the dog said “Yaaaay!”

(And yes, he knew that he magically got treats already, and everyone was his friend already. But he didn’t care. Because why would he?)

Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever/Poodle Mix) With Elizabethan Collar

Oh man, he was REALLY happy.

Salt-and-Pepper Schnauzer, Goldendoodle with Cone of Shame, Pug, and Unidentifiable Dogbutt

You’ll be seeing more of the gorgeous schnauzer on the left soon.

Goldendoodle in Elizabethan Collar, West Highland White Terrier, and Mixed-Breed Dog

Aw, pretty cute westie there, too.
