Dog of the Day: Lina the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

I ran into this pup on one of her first days in the city, after moving here from Texas. She was a little intimidated by all the noise, fuss, and people, but I saw her again a few days later and she seemed to be settling in quite well.

Aaaand I managed to delete the note that had her name on it. Hopefully her parents will drop by and see her and remind me. She lives in the Russian Hill/Polk Street area, so it may be that Tidus is going to have a new playmate!

Edit: Mom chimed in below, and it turns out her name is Lina. Yay, Lina!

Tricolor Pembroke Welsh Corgi

A little bit on the petite side for a corgi. Which means they had to work extra-hard to pack that much goofiness into her.

Happy Tricolor Pembroke Welsh Corgi

I’ve caught several corgis on that corner. Possibly there is Quantum Corgi Entanglement going on.

Dubious Pembroke Welsh Corgi

I can see Tidus has some competition in the ‘goofy expressions’ category.

Birder-Day Supplement: House Finch

How have I never noticed these guys around before? They’re so pretty! And they’re apparently ultra-common, too. And loud. Did I mention loud? They’re not quite on a level with the parrots, but they’re up there.

(Please do correct my ID in the comments if I’m wrong. Which I don’t think I am. Maybe.)

Male House Finch

For city birds, these two (one here, one in the next photo) were surprisingly skittish. I couldn’t get within 15 feet.

Male House Finch

Fortunately, zoom lenses don’t care. Woohoo!

Female House Finch

And the female. Not as colorful, but the pattern on the breast is gorgeous.

Dog of the Day: Oh My God I Totally Cannot Handle Willow the Eurasier Puppy

So, I just recently posted my second Eurasier. It was less than a week later that I happened to be wandering by The Groom Room (grooming place right near my apartment) and squealed like an 11-year-old girl. And then I took some pictures, and went inside and cadged the nice woman who was grooming the dogs into letting me take some more pictures.

Willow is just that cute. Trust me. You may think she’s cute in these pictures, but she is eleventy times cuter in person.

9-Week-Old Eurasier Puppy

You guys are lucky you got any pictures at all. I almost dropped the camera and just buried my face in that fluff.

9-Week-Old Wolf-Sable or Fawn Eurasier Puppy

I should never be allowed to own anything this cute, until and unless I have a dog-friendly workplace, because I would be totally incapable of leaving her alone.

Of course, any workplace that I brought Willow to would instantly become dog-friendly, so there is that.

Dog of the Day: Pemmie With a Tail

Autumn and I are still hunting the elusive ‘perfect corgi’: a pembroke with a fluffy coat, at least one floppy ear (two is acceptable as well), and a tail. This is the trifecta of corgi ‘flaws-that-make-them-a-thousand-times-more-awesome’, and also disqualify them from those wasting their valuable time at those boring dog shows.

Dylan was oh-so-close, but he didn’t have a tail. This lovely gal, on the other hand, has the tail, but not the other two. We will continue our search. And in the mean time, we will just have to settle for ‘hilariously adorable’.

(Oh, incidentally, this is the corgi that was in the background four days ago, the one Rose Marie pointed out in comments.)

Tricolor Pembroke Welsh Corgi with Full Tail

Apparently Pembrokes with takes do tend to have the sickle-shaped ones.

Goofy Pembroke Welsh Corgi Face

Gooooooofball.

Dog of the Day: Sally the Silken Windhound

Sally is our second ‘Silken Windhound’. She’s a petite little thing, almost whippet-sized, and absolutely gorgeous. She also has her own blog, called, appropriately enough, ‘Sally the Silken Windhound‘. She hasn’t updated in a few months… maybe if we bug her a little bit she’ll post again!

In the mean time, we’ll have a few pictures of her here.

Small Silken Windhound

Check out the title picture on her blog. She looks VERY different in it.

Small Silken Windhound

I bet she could comfortably beat out the dalmatians, speed-wise. She’s amazingly aerodynamic.

Small Silken Windhound Smiling

Aww, happy face.

Wet Pit Bull Sniffing Silken Windhound's Butt

I caught up with her again a little while later, but she was kind of busy.

Double Dog Day: Dalmatian Pandaemonium!

So I was walking along the Million Dog March route, and twice I ran into this woman who was walking two dalmatians. They did the entire route (3 miles) by running back and forth and forward and back and around in circles, barking madly and having a blast. And then I ran into them as they were leaving and they were just as energetic as they had been earlier. I don’t know what she feeds these dogs, but I want some!

Of course… taking pictures of dogs doing that presents a certain amount of … difficulty.

Two Dalmatian Butts

“Oh there they are I’ll just get my camera up and… and… dammit.”

The Top Quarter of a Dalmatian

“Oh here comes one I just need to… dammit.”

Galloping Dalmatian

“All right, now, if I just hold still… just another second… got it! … *CRASH*”

Dalmatian

This one stopped for a good… four seconds.

Running Dalmatian

And then promptly galloped off again.

Dog of the Day: Weimaraner

I always think of Weimaraners who are older than about 8 months as old and dignified. It’s the coloration, fools me every time.

Typically they then run circles around me.

Dog of the Day: Caleb the Plott hound and Friends

Another pup from the Million Dog March. Only our second Plott hound.

Brindled Plott Hound

I have more trouble keeping hounds straight than I do little white fluffy dogs, and that’s saying something.

Brindled Plott Hound

Caleb showing his colors. Pretty neat bandanas.

Brindled Plott Hound

Contented dawg.

Coot-erday Supplement: American Coots

I am fully expecting to be told that this is actually a flat-billed hippo-hoarder or something, but I struggle gamely on.

I ran into these two on my way to the Million Dog March. The small fluffy one was very, very vocal.

Adult And Baby American Coots

Anyone care to weigh in on an approximate age for the little one?

Adult And Baby American Coots

This may be the perfect time to use the word ‘festooned’. As in, ‘That adult coot is festooned with weeds, and the baby is festooned with fluff.’

Baby American Coot

I was absolutely amazed at how much noise something this little could make.

Adult American Coot

I take it the two different meanings of ‘coot’ are related. Coots do have a somewhat surly air about them.

Dog of the Day: Sienna the Boykin Spaniel

I didn’t collect many names at the Million Dog March, but I just had to get Sienna’s name and age (13) for posterity, because she’s our first Boykin spaniel. And also because she was a complete sweetheart.

Older Boykin Spaniel With Greying Face

I’d say she’s doing pretty well for a 13-year-old. Fairly spry, and she looked utterly delighted with life.

Older Boykin Spaniel With Greying Face

Not sure where the ears are going but it’s pretty awesome.

Older Boykin Spaniel With Greying Face

Look at the expressions on her face. Either she’s just about the most cheerful pup ever, or she was having the BEST time at this event. Or, most likely, both.
