(If anyone had ever told me that getting older was accompanied by this much stress, I would have done a lot more to try to avoid it. In the two months of July and August, it looks like I am going to rack up six or more doctor’s appointments, and at least three and possibly as many as five dentist’s appointments. Eeeeeeeegh! Kids, eat right, floss every day, and get lots of exercise! Trust me on this one.)

I have no firm evidence for my choice of breed here: mom and dad had no idea. But I’m going to go with Catahoula mixes, because some of them are brindles and these two just kinda look right.
Yaoyao means ‘far away’ in Chinese… not sure if that’s where it came from. Cheche apparently means a lot of things in a lot of different languages, but I prefer to think that it comes from an African language, and means ‘small thing’. Cheche is the male, with the splash of white on his chest.
I vaguely recall that these two were mostly out of energy, after a long day of running around.
Well, if I ever make an ‘alphabet of dogs’, I’ve got L taken care of.

Autumn and I call them ‘airplane ears’ because they stick out to the side like wings! Not sure what this gal is mixed with… could be lab.

I love dogs that do this. We usually call it ‘bunny butt’ but in this case it looks more like ‘lion loin’.
Okay, now that’s just goofy. Maybe she’s half pit bull and half seal?
Just ran across this article and thought my readers might be interested. It’s a story of a dog whose self-appointed job was to escort hikers as they climbed Indian Fort Mountain, in Kentucky. She wore a collar with a tag that read, “My name is Tillie. I am not a stray. I live next door. Let’s go for a hike.”
Wish I’d had a chance to meet Tillie. She sounds like one in a million.
Can you believe that Hansel is only 4 months old in this picture? He’s so huge!
After intermittent problems for the last couple of months, my camera has given up the ghost. At first I was like, ‘Come on, Canon, I’ve only had it for 9 months!’ But, well, I came to realize that I use my camera a lot more than most people, and carry it everywhere. I guess it’s not surprising that it ages quickly.
Anyway, off to Canon it goes, for warranty repair.

Found this little gal chilling outside of a miscellaneous-stuff store in Chinatown. Think she might be the store cat.
She didn’t mind me getting reasonably close, but didn’t seem thrilled with the idea of being petted, so I didn’t push the issue.
This dog clearly loves being part of a dog pack, valuing the security and sense of belonging that only a pack can provide.
I’m sure she loves running around too.
If I moved somewhere I could bike to work from, I would totally get a dog backpack. But one sized for a corgi.
She looked completely at ease. I think she probably had plenty of practice at this.
Brooklyn is a perfect name for this pup. He’s got a little attitude, and perhaps a bit of a crusty exterior, but is a total softy at heart. (Although he has no concept of personal space whatsoever.)
I have seen almost a dozen Yorkies in the last two days. There are a lot around, but this is an unusual amount.
He was doing that thing with his tongue in roughly half of the pictures I took.

Sure was curious about my camera.
These two have identical stories: in each case I ran into them, took a bunch of pictures, and almost none of them came out even vaguely decently, because it was really too dark out to be taking pictures of dogs… but they were so cute that I just couldn’t resist. I really hope I run into them again.
The first one is Cooper the 5-month-old miniature Australian shepherd, and the second and third are of Kody (aka Kodiak), the 5-month-old husky.
Cooper actually looked surprisingly serious in all my (blurry) pictures. Adorably serious, of course.
Kody, on the other hand, is pretty clearly not the serious type.
The black spectacles really do make him look a little devilish, don’t they?
I ran into Marco last Tuesday and had this major feeling of déjà vu. (Ooh, schmancy accent marks.) When I got home I looked up ‘Marco’ but didn’t find any dogs by that name on here. But when I looked up ‘basset hound’ things fell into place: Marco totally reminds me of Verne, but without the footie pajamas. (He also reminds me of Donny the Land Shark, a little bit.)
Anyway, Marco is awesome.
Marco lives right near where I work. Hopefully I’ll run into him again.
I have been trying to include whole people in my shots a bit more, lately. Unfortunately, in this case, I got two pictures of the bottom half of Marco doing the trick, one picture of Marco doing the trip with the bottom 2/3 of his mom, and two pictures of Marco and his mom after he’d finished the trick. Perfect.
Look at that sweet face. And that floofy tail. I think basset/Brittany is a winning combination.
