Caturday Supplement: Marmalade Tabby (with White)

Autumn ran into this fine specimen on Grove somewhere near Octavia, which is the Hayes Valley area. He was sitting around in front of a house, basking in the sunlight, minding his own business, when Autumn came up and disturbed him. By petting him for around five minutes. He was terribly disturbed.

Autumn went on her way to her appointment, and then came back about an hour and a half later. He was still sitting there. So she was forced to disturb him again. Two more pictures, after the break.

Looks like a perfectly normal kitty... except... where's the tail?

Dog of the Day: Italian Greyhound

Another first: our first Italian greyhound here on Dogs of SF. Actually, I’ve tried a couple of times to feature an Italian greyhound, but every time I’ve ended up with the dog hiding from me entirely, or shivering so much when I get near him that he looks blurry, or in extreme cases both. They seem for the most part to be pretty shy and easily frightened, both by people and by other dogs. And also often very cold, especially in that San Francisco wind.

Not this guy, though. He wasn’t at all shy, came right up to me and said hello, and wasn’t at all scared of the other dogs in the little dog park he was in, either. In fact, he seemed to adore teasing them: he’d run up to one, bark at him, sniff at him, and if that didn’t get his attention, snap his jaws a foot or so away from the other dog. Then he’d run away, and try to get the other dog to chase him. Because he knew he was faster than just about anything he was liable to meet.

Which gave me another problem: how to catch him with the camera? Because when he was running, either he was far away, or blurry. Or blurry and far away, come to think of it. But I eventually got three pics (so that makes two more after the break), two when his dad gathered him up, and one when he was coming over to investigate me.

He's just spent half an hour teasing other dogs into chasing him all over creation. He's not even tired.

Dog of the Day: White German Shepherd

Look at that fluff.

This guy is spoiled rotten, and with good reason. How could you not spoil him rotten? If I had this dog, I’d spend about half an hour every day with my face buried in white foozly floof.

Two more pictures full of foozly floof (one of which is also full of goof) after the break.

Not shown are the two other people who were petting him at this time. He was a real center of attention.

Dog of the Day: Wiener Lump

For your approval: DoSF’s second wiener lump.

Usually this guy flips over and asks me to rub his belly. Not this time.

Dog of the Day: Australian Cattle Dog

We haven’t had one of these yet, so I figured I’d post him in here, even if the point of view is a little silly.

Pretty dogs, and smart, too. Not sure why we don't see more of them around.

Dog of the Day: Poodle Lump

For your consideration: a poodle lump. (Possibly a poodle-mix lump.)

It was a cold and windy day: this guy was just protecting his toes.

Dog of the Day: Golden Retriever

Please forgive me if I post too many goldens: I grew up living near golden retrievers, and I may be a little more biased towards them than some people can stand.

I think you’ll agree, though, that this is one of the most photogenic dogs ever. Autumn got these pictures, and I just love them. (PS: Autumn, if you remember the name of this lovely pup, post it in the comments, please?)

Five more pictures, after the break!

Dog of the Day: White German Shepherd

Very unusual, very pretty. And, since they’re German shepherds, they’re also wonderfully loyal, smart, and a whole lot of fun.

A portrait, after the break.

Do you see the little black thing that kind of looks like it's sprouting out of her back? That's the tail of a smaller dog, completely eclipsed by awesome.

Dog of the Day: Molly (Half Golden, Half Collie)

Another golden/collie mix, only this one they’re pretty sure about. (Although she might have some more in her besides just those two…)

Gorgeous gal I’ve run into a few times now: once in the Nob Hill area, and once out on the Embarcadero. (Second picture after the break.)

I can't think of a much better mix than golden/collie. Both dogs with such great temperaments.

Dog of the Day: Charlie the Finnish Spitz Mix

Another ‘I have no clue’ dog, but Autumn did have a clue on this one: she thinks it’s a golden retriever/collie mix, or maybe an Irish setter/collie. I have no idea. All I know is that I love this dog. He was tied to a fence along the Embark-bark-barkadero, and when I stopped to look at him he turned ‘the look’ on me. So hypnotic. Next thing I knew, I was rubbing his belly, with absolutely no memory of the intervening time.

Oh, and when I got home I discovered that all the dog treats were missing from my backpack. Which was even stranger, because I’d left my backpack at home.

Second, even more awesome, picture, after the break.

Edit: We’re now relatively sure that he’s a Finnish Spitz mix. Also, his name is Charlie, and he’s also featured here and here.

The words for fox in Irish are, literally, 'red dog' ('madra rua'). This must be the one they were thinking of.
