Blossom (just recently turned 1) is a German shepherd mixed with something that has even more hilariously ginormous ears than a German shepherd does. Which is saying something. Perhaps a German shepherd/donkey mix?

Guess who I ran into while in transit (via ferry boat!) to Alameda, a few weekends ago? A ridiculously adorable 4-month-old puppy who was absolutely terrified of me.
Yes, Lela likes having her paw held. Not sure what I can add to that.

No sooner had I turned around from taking pictures of Hudson when I saw Lewis (11, pronounced ‘Louie’) and Bailey (6) being excessively adorable. This is what we in the dog blogging biz call a ‘good dog day’.
Louis has an adorable trick: walking around on his hind legs while moving his forepaws up and down in a ‘begging’ posture. Too cute.
He also has that infamous ‘puppy cut’. So ridiculous.

Hard to believe that these two are the same species.
I was walking down Polk Street by Wags (an awesome ‘dog wash’ near my home) a week ago and I looked in, and I thought, ‘Wow, is that a Leonberger?’ I snapped a couple of pictures through the window, wishing I’d been lucky enough to run into him when he got there, and wandered off.
Several hours later, I was walking down another section of Polk Street, and who should I spot but that same dog, who turns out to be named Hudson and to be 7 months old. Yes, that giant bundle of fur, drool, and love is still a puppy.
That’s him, of course, with the tongue. Also shown: three golden retrievers, a standard poodle, a border collie (mix?), some kind of hound, and, peeking in from the back, a Berner.
Their faces are so neat. It looks like he dipped his into a pot of India ink.
Something has captured Hudson’s full attention.
Yes, that’s a spoonful of vanilla ice cream, one of Hudson’s favorites.
Yes, poor Hudson did eventually get the ice cream. Yay!

I love the little things you stumble across when wandering San Francisco.
Trying to buy a used far is a lot less pleasant than I remember. And that’s saying something. Fortunately, I have a little kitten therapy to keep me going.
I didn’t know what ‘calico’ actually meant until I was well into my 30s.
They were being so nice and cuddly and cozy, right up until this point.
After that, things got a little bouncier.
I didn’t get this one’s name, I was too busy being licked.
It’s hard to beat the sheer amount of cute that a Shiba can bring to bear.
He was very interested in what I was doing. Maybe I could get him to take some pictures of me for a change.
In keeping with the theme from yesterday, I present you two pups I ran into a couple weeks ago: Abbe, a five-year-old border collie/something-or-other mix, and Ashley. Ashley is a border collie mix too, though it’s kind of hard to tell. And apparently the DNA test agrees with my first impression, and she’s also at least part keeshond. And Ashley is healthy and happy and nearly twenty years old. And still likes to go on hikes!
Apparently her fur has always been like that… her head is double-coat, but her body is missing the guard hairs and only has the undercoat. Consequently, she has puppy-soft fur on her body.
Such a gorgeous face… and those eyes!
They’d had Ashley since she was a few months old. How lucky do you have to be to have such a wonderful dog for twenty years?
This is Abbe. I feel bad about not getting more pictures of her, especially with those gorgeous white socks.
This and the next one are pictures that were sent to me by Ashley’s family. If I had to guess, I’d say this was on the California coast, somewhere north of San Francisco.
I can tell someone is absolutely no trouble at all when it comes to car rides.
Sadie is fifteen and a half years old! She’s really skinny, because she doesn’t like her kidney-friendly dog food very much, but I gather her weight has evened out, so that’s good. And she’s still getting around just fine, and you can tell just from the pictures that she’s still a super-happy dog. I only took a few pictures of her because she walked over to me and leaned her head down and pressed the top of it firmly against my thigh and leaned until I started petting her. And after that it was kind of hard to stop.
I love those coy looks, and golden retrievers seem to be masters of them.
