DuckDog of the Day: Roxie and a Little Teeny Bit of Tank

It’s late and I’m tired. So here is a picture of a pair of members of Autumn’s family. When her bestest dog in the whole wide world, Ceili, passed away last year, her parents got a dog fairly soon thereafter. (Begley). And then, because it would take more than just one dog to help them get over their loss, they got another one. And the second dog, Roxie, came with a duck, who thought Roxie was her mother. Because if you had a dog who had a duck that followed her around, would YOU separate the two?

Thus, I would like to introduce Roxie, and her duck, Tank.

The duck is still quite scared of the Rhodes family, but she does love her dog-mom.

Dog of the Day: Toby the English Bull Terrier

He’s not just an ‘English bull terrier’, he’s also an English ‘bull terrier’, apparently! Which is to say, I think Toby (10 months old) is from England, and is also a bull terrier. But he’s not stereotypically English, because he wears his heart on his sleeve, and goes around letting everyone know how much he likes them. Which is a lot.

I can’t help but think of ‘the coneheads’, only… sort of upside down.

Gotta love the collar.

Is that a mustache?

Dog of the Day: Ruby the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

That little line makes her face look an awful lot like Havalino, but it’s not him, I promise. She’s a little bit bigger, and more than a little bit fluffier.

Sad corgis are not allowed in this city. All San Franciscans who see a sad corgi are morally obligated to administer belly rubs until corgi happiness is achieved.

Hee. Dubious corgi expression.

Look at that haunch.

Dog of the Day: Pink Poodle

Autumn and I were walking by the Groom Room, a local dog grooming place, not long ago. We happened to glance in, and were rather surprised to see one of the residents.

She kind of stands out, doesn’t she?

Pink Poodle. Really.

I am pretty sure that is not a happy dog.

We dropped by a little later and saw her being groomed. Egad.

It really is a pretty nice little shop. I promise.

Dog of the Day: Adopted Macy’s Kitten!

So it turns out that two of my coworkers adopted one of the Macy’s window kittens this year! Here’s how it happened: I pointed out the live webcam to one of my coworkers who also likes adorable things. And she happened to mention it to a couple of members of our fine operations/IT group, who, it turns out, are completely helpless in the face of cute. And they saw one of the kittens in that window and just went ‘OH MY GOD WE MUST HAVE THAT KITTEN!!!’ And so they did.

These pics are all from early on after the adoption. I will post some grown-up pics another Caturday. (I also don’t remember what name they chose, so I’ll include that later too.)

Oh god that little white goatee. And the little black nose!

I want one of those. Not for a cat. For me.

I think we have an aspiring bird-watcher here.

Double Dog Valentine’s Day: English Bulldog Bookends

A pair of bulldogs for you today. They had never met before, but I think it was love at first sight. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

That thing you think might be drool? It’s drool.

Funny to run into them just as they were running into one another.

Dog of the Day: Ike the Incredible Dane

I was meeting Autumn for dinner at a restaurant down on Fillmore Street a couple of weeks ago. I’d been out walking (taking my mind off my discomforts) and was waiting for her. It was already dark (which, at that time of year, is synonymous with ‘it was dinnertime’) and I was wandering a bit. And, right out in front of a favorite restaurant of ours (Chouquet’s, also on Fillmore) I ran across a Great Dane.

But this was not just any Great Dane. I introduced myself to him and he plastered himself against me, demanding petting. He no longer looked like a young dog, but he still got around fine. I estimated his age at 5 or 6.

Turns out he’s TWICE that old. Eleven, as of February 5th! That’s like meeting a 110-year-old person… at a restaurant. Ike is my new hero. I’ve been waiting on posting him, since his mom promised to send me a couple better pictures of him, but I think she may have forgotten, and I couldn’t let this go un-posted. Happy slightly belated birthday, Ike!

Eleven-Year-Old Black Great Dane With White Muzzle

Okay, get a load of those ears. Also, the eye: he’s not blind, that’s from my flash. It was too dark to get normal pics.

Double Dog Day: Fuji and Looey the Chinese Crested Dogs

I am learning, slowly: I normally don’t take any pictures when it’s really dim outside, either due to time or fog/clouds. But I saw these two, and they were unusual enough that I had to at least try. And hey, a couple of them did come out okay.

Looey (male, 9) is the one trying to investigate the camera. Fuji (female, also 9) is shy.

They were right outside my favorite cheese shop. I think Fuji was partly shy, and partly distracted by yummy cheese.

Dog of the Day: Heterochromaic Dalmatian

Never seen a Dalmatian with eyes like that before. Not to mention the mascara!

Dachshund With One Blue Eye and One Brown Eye

Jeepers creepers! Where’d you get them peepers? Jeepers creepers! Where’d you get those eyes?

Gosh all get up! How’d they get so lit up?

Double Dog Day: Wheaten Terrier and French Bulldog

I think I remember this fluffy gal as being a wheaten terrier, although my notes don’t say, and she looks a bit like a fluffier-than-average goldendoodle, too. So who knows? The reason my notes don’t say is because I was too busy giggling about how goofy and adorable these two looked while playing together to actually take any notes. Hazard of the profession.

Incidentally: if I took pictures of your dog, and you’re on here, and haven’t seen your dog yet, please leave me a comment and tell me what your dog’s name is, and what breed, and if you recall, about when and where I took the pictures. I’ll move them right to the head of the line!

One of them was definitely hers. Don’t recall which.

Taken while I was dealing with some of the worst of my kidney stone. These two helped my morale enormously.

Their expressions were endless fun.

If there hadn’t been any humans around, I probably would have tried joining in the wrestling.
