Dog of the Day: Jasper the 4-Month-Old Labradoodle.

Another incarnation of Fozzie Bear. Although, to be honest, I guess he really looks more like Rowlf the Dog. (Who was always a favorite of mine anyway.)

That's my brother, Brad, who was in town for New Year's. We went walking through SF, and he didn't seem TOO impatient when I stopped every dog we walked past for pictures.

You can't really tell from the pictures that he's a puppy at all. He totally is. He bounces around and licks everyone and is full of puppyness.

Dog of the Day: Rumor the Border Collie/Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever

You don’t see many toller mixes around, and it’s no wonder: if there were more of them they’d totally take over the place. So cute!

Rumor looooves people. However, Rumor does not love cameras. In fact, she was totally lovable (begging for belly rubs) before I took mine out, and a little hostile after. That’s a first… sometimes the owner doesn’t like cameras, but I’ve never run into a dog that didn’t. But apparently it’s not that rare for rescue dogs to be afraid of ‘men with something in their hands’, so maybe that was it.

Happy New Year’s Dog: Jasper the Leonberger

Here’s a Happy New Year’s Dog for you!

Jasper is only 8 months old. He’s 90 lbs and will probably end up around 150-160 when all is said and done. Huge-mongous! Jasper’s owner runs a Leonberger rescue called ‘LeoPALS‘, but Jasper is a pedigreed show dog, or will be when he gets old enough. Right now he’s just a gigantic snuggly puppy.

One final note (added late): if you have any interest in the Leonberger and its history, a friend of Jasper’s mom named Caroline Bliss Isberg, who is writing a book on the subject, compiled a little article here.

I bet his owner was very, very tired of people asking to take pictures of her dog by the end of that day. It was only 8:30 AM and I wasn't even the first.

The gentleman in the picture is entirely unrelated to the dog, but I do know him. He has two golden retrievers that I've taken pictures of. Why is he in the picture? Because he knows an awesome dog when he sees one, I guess.

Caturday Supplement: Catwalk (Jupiter the 4-year-old cat)

My brother and I were out walking in San Francisco yesterday. It was misting out, everything was a little damp, but that didn’t stop one gentleman from taking his cat out on a nice little walk. Seems oddly appropriate, for a couple of different reasons, in the Castro.

The cat even seemed fairly into it, although I think he’d have been a lot happier if it wasn’t all wet outside.

Dog of Christmas Day: Heterochromic Australian Shepherd

For your Christmas enjoyment. I didn’t have any dogs with wreaths but I found you a really pretty pooch. It’s hard to see except in one slightly blurry picture, but she doesn’t just have two different colored eyes: her right eye is half blue and half brown.
