There was a busker playing out near Union Square with a couple of dogs.

Yes, she's heavy. The busker said she was like that when he found her, and hopefully he can help her lose a little of that excess weight.

Not sure what he is, but he’s definitely not the usual Macy’s window fare (i.e. Chihuahua… or should that be “¡Ai Chihuahua!”?)

Scruff-a-licious! Also, yes, that strange spotty texture in the upper righthand corner is the reflection of my shirt.

Dog of the Day: Mochi the Keeshund

I promised someone a grey foofly dog, and lo, I have delivered! Mochi is an eight-and-a-half-year-old Keeshund with a sweet disposition. Can’t for the life of me remember where I ran into her, although it looks like it was somewhere on the peninsula.

Keeshund fur needs a label. 'Good down to -10° F. (AWESOME below -10° F.)'

Look at the feet. All right in a row. If I were her I'd be afraid of falling over sideways.

Does anyone else remember 'Fizzgig' from The Dark Crystal?

They're really very pretty dogs. And they'd go really well with my dress scheme, or at least my pants, most of which are black.

Is it just me, or does a keeshund backside look a little like an Old English Sheepdog's front side?

Site News: Added Comment Subscription

Just updated to WordPress 3.3, which broke some customizations. (You’ll notice the logo is gone.) I’ll fix that stuff tonight when I get home.

I also, by request, just added a plugin that allows you to subscribe to comments in a given comment chain. This not only lets you hear about replies to comments that you make on DoSF, but also lets those of you whose dogs or cats have been posted on here subscribe to the comments on their page, thus letting you know when someone else has stumbled on the pictures of your pet and is lavishing adoration upon them.

Please let me know if you have any problems with this feature.

Dog of the Day: MJ the Pit Bull Puppy

MJ was about four and a half months old when this picture was taken, which (coincidentally enough) was on September 11th. I’ve seen a spotty puppy belly before… but spotty puppy LIPS? So ridiculous!

Met this pup at a chocolate festival. HUGE number of people. No wonder she looks a little overwhelmed.

How could anyone resist a puppy like that?

See? Spotty lips! (Also, doesn't she totally look like a Boston terrier in this picture?)

I think someone would have been delighted to lick the camera if not reined in.

I like the kid in the background, who is clearly delighted to be at a chocolate festival.

Double Dog Day: Hailey and Hana the Havaneses

Hailey is the one that’s almost completely black, and the other is Hana. These are our first full Havanese pups, too. Woohoo, another breed!

In other news: if you’re looking for something to get an animal-loving friend, check out this calendar, which you can get in return for making a donation to The Friends of Oakland Animal Services. The group helps to make Oakland’s animal shelters responsible and humane. And, as I can personally attest, the calendar quite adorable, and full of stories about shelter animals.

I always thought it was spelled 'Javanese'. Just another example of Adam making things more complicated than they really are.

They're super-scruffy. I wonder what the (probably ridiculous) breed standard haircut is for Havaneses?

How has it literally never occurred to me until now exactly why people put topknots on dogs like this?

That shock of white fur really does look a lot like a beard and mustache, doesn't it?

SF Pet Photographer

Was wandering the internets and stumbled across this guy: Mark Rogers Photography. He’s a Bay Area pet photographer with a weekly (although perhaps somewhat inconsistent) blog. I really like some of his stuff. I’d post one here as an example, but he’s an all-rights-reserved kind of guy, and I respect that. Still, well worth a quick look.
