Caturday Supplement: Macy’s Kitty

Kind of forgot how hard it is to get decent pictures through a window. Might have to drop by sometime when there are fewer people around, because they seem to be the bulk of the obnoxious reflections in the foreground. Or maybe I’ll go inside Macy’s and see if I can cadge them into letting me get some pictures behind the scenes.

Anyway, go visit Macy’s! The kitties are adorable! And so are the puppies, when there are any around!

Cat

Look at that ear hair. I feel for you, kitty... if I didn't cut mine off, my ears would look just like yours on the inside.

Cat

Ooh... pretty amber cats-eyes.

Double Dog Day: Charlie the Wire-Haired and Cocoa the Long-Haired Dachshund

Foofly wiener and scruffy wiener!

Wire-Haired Miniature Dachshund

He looks so determined.

Long-haired Miniature Dachshund

If you look close, you can tell he's 'heterochromic'... two different colored eyes.

Wire-Haired Miniature Dachshund and Long-Haired Miniature Dachshund

They look like a fun pair. Complementary.

Foofly Wiener

A little better picture of the eyes, plus of the merle coloration. So pretty!

Scruffy wiener!

One of the best 'thousand-mile stares' I've ever seen on a dog.

Long-Haired Miniature Dachshund and Wire-Haired Miniature Dachshund

A rare moment of unanimity. Also, look at that ridiculous ear.

Site News: Got Rid of the Header. Opinions?

Edit: Emergency seems to be over. No idea what caused it. DoSF will now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

I was looking at the site the other day, and I noticed that, what with the title and the header and the post title and a little text, the first picture in the dog-of-the-day posts wasn’t even on the first page of the blog. That seems kind of dumb for a photoblog. So I’ve gotten rid of the header. Let me know what you think.

Dog of the Day: Buddy the Teeny Tiny Yorkie!

I’m pretty sure Buddy was still a puppy when these pictures were taken. I’m absolutely certain that he was adorable, friendly, and adventurous.

Yorkshire Terrier

Buddy stopped by Cloudmark (where I work) for a day last July. Needless to say, he was a hit.

Yorkshire Terrier

I think we wore him out. It only took about 40 of us.

Yorkshire Terrier

Coworker, who was taking care of Buddy for the day. Lucky guy!

Dog of the Day: Dolce the Samoyed

Going all the way back to Bay to Barkers for this one. Man, I got a lot of pictures there!

Dolce was a gorgeous pup, who was there with San Francisco Samoyed Rescue (though she wasn’t adoptable). She had a bit of an attitude, though: another dog got too close to her ball, and she got very unhappy about that. Which got her ball taken away. I have the feeling that she’ll learn her lesson sooner or later.

Samoyed

Just the right kind of dog to have in the harsh Alaskan winters.

Samoyed

Dolce getting a time-out for her ball aggression.

Samoyed

Dolce getting a lecture from mom.

Samoyed

Dolce was pensive and a little thoughtful after her lecture... for around twelve seconds.

Samoyed

And then WHAM! HAPPY! Hopefully she retained a little bit.

Samoyed

Dolce is aptly named: she's a real sweetie.

Dog of the Day: Isobel the Australian Kelpie/American Eskimo Dog/Pharaoh Hound

Really? American Eskimo dog? If that’s the result of one of those genetic dog scan things, then color me highly skeptical. If it’s knowledge of the dog’s parents, color me surprised. Even without the Eskie, though, kelpie/pharaoh hound is a pretty unusual combination.

I just wish I’d gotten some more (and better!) pictures. Isobel’s really cute, but I don’t think the pics really do her justice. Oh well… they can’t all be winners. (And, in case it isn’t clear, I mean ‘my photographs’, not ‘the dogs’. All Dogs of San Francisco are winners.)

Australian Kelpie/American Eskimo Dog/Pharaoh Hound Mix

I do make some dogs uncomfortable. Sorry, Isobel!

Australian Kelpie/American Eskimo Dog/Pharaoh Hound Mix

Caught mid-bark. Also, I like the spotty-cow-belly effect.

Dog of the Day: Tasman the Utterly Adorable 3.5-Month-Old Miniature Australian Shepherd

Oh my God I’m not sure I can handle this much cute in one place. (And no, I’m not sure whether Tasman is a ‘he’ or a ‘she’. I vaguely sort of recall ‘she’, but I’ll be happy to correct that if someone tells me I’m wrong.)

Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

For a mini-Aussie, Tasman is pretty social. She's a tiny bit shy, but warmed up pretty quick.

Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

Kind of neat spectacle markings around the eyes.

Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

Australian shepherd ears are silly. I always feel like I should tickle them.

Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

Oh man. The start of the ridiculous happy expressions. If that doesn't melt your heart, you don't have one.

Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

Ridiculous.

Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

If you'll excuse me, I'm just going to follow this adorable puppy home...

Caturday Supplement: The First of This Year’s Macy’s Kitties

The Macy’s display this year is quite frustrating for me. I walk past Macy’s in the morning at about 8:45 AM on the way to work, but can hang around until 9. This year the display is starting at 9:30. Until the week before Christmas (when I’ll be gone) when it starts at 7. And by the time I’m done with work, it’s already dark outside and impossible to get good pictures. Bah. Hopefully I can squeeze in some time there on weekends.

Cat

Cat tails are awesome. I love the way cats wrap them around themselves.

Cat

Just a pretty kitty. Wouldn't play with my finger through the glass, though.

Dog of the Day: Basenji Mix?

Well, he kind of looks like a basenji to me. Perhaps we can get frequent reader M.C., proud Basenji cuddler and owner of her own dog blog, to confirm or deny.

Basenji Mix

I've noticed there are two kinds of leashed dogs: the ones that mellow, and the ones that, well, are 'always at the end of their leash'.

Basenji Mix

The racing stripe is unusually complete. It goes all the way to the back of his head.

Basenji Mix

So aerodynamic! And with the racing stripe too. This must be one fast dog!

Dog of the Day: Ridiculous Underbite with Attached Pug (Mix?)

Pug! Or possibly pug mix! Either way, despite his ridiculous underbite, he was neither repugnant nor particularly pugnacious. Pug-a-licious!

Pug Mix

Super-curly tail. Was just as much fun to straighten out as you might expect. Yay!

Pug Mix

One of those dogs who looks dynamic and active even when he's standing still.

Pug Mix

This is his 'hopeful' expression, by the way.

Pug Mix

A rather aerodynamic pose.

Pug Mix

Cats do this all the time, but I've rarely seen dogs do it. He was in utter ecstasy.

Pug Mix

He has a decided preference as to where he wants to be petted. Flank? Nope. Head? Nope. Tummy? Nope. Back? YESYESYESYESYES!

Pug Mix

Someone knows what he wants, and gets it when he can.
