Dog of the Day: Cocoa the Schnauzer/Poodle Mix

Cocoa is a ‘schnoodle’, a schnauzer/poodle mix. I love the term ‘schnoodle’, although it sounds like a mild insult. (‘Shaddap, you schnoodle!’) And I like Cocoa’s name… because I like hot cocoa, and Cocoa is just the right color to remind me of it.

Brown Schnauzer Poodle Mix with White Chest and Stripe

One of the challenges of dog photography is how to get the dogs to take their eyes off mom or dad for long enough to get a picture.

The white spot on his chest? MARSHMALLOW FLUFF!

Dog of the Day: Bandit the Pomeranian Puppy

I’m having a pretty stressful week. (Dental appointment today, which set me up for a rather expensive procedure quite soon, one which includes them drilling a hole in my jawbone and screwing a platinum screw into it. Plus tomorrow I get to give a presentation to a group of engineers, which marks the first presentation I’ve given since college. Yay?)

So here is a very low-effort post of a very adorable fluffball, who I met on my way home from work today. His name is Bandit and he is 4 months old.

I’m glad I ran into Bandit today, he lowered my stress levels noticeably.

Dog of the Day: Obi-Wan the Schnauzer

Look who is scnauzing up the place!

Edit: Mumble. This was supposed to have posted yesterday (Sunday) at noon. Stupid blog software.

Salt And Pepper (Possibly Silver) Miniature Schnauzer

Beautifully groomed, including prominent fluffiness on the undercarriage.

If that isn’t an impish look I don’t know what is.

Hah. He got me.

And the happy smile. Yes, this one is a prankster.

Garterday Supplement: Snake-In-The-Grass

Autumn and I were on a ‘cheese tour of Marin‘ (which was awesome, I highly recommend it) and we were having a nice little picnic next to a pond, outside of the Marin French Cheese Company. I saw something moving in the grass, and grabbed my camera, and caught this little guy. He appears to be a ‘coast garter snake‘.

Coastal Garter Snake (Black with White Stripes and Red Triangular Markings)

Such pretty markings. Every time I got near him he’d do a threat display of one kind or another.

…and then scurry off in a hurry.

He was the absolute perfect size to make a living bracelet.

Dog of the Day: Sencha the Australian Cattle Dog (Mix?)

May be a full ACD, may be a mix. Definitely a rescue, and definitely very happy, and personable. And naughty: Sencha likes to herd things. And the thing Sencha likes to herd the most is ‘people riding bicycles’.

White Australian Cattle Dog with Black and Brown Spots

Look at that doggie smile. This was taken at a little ‘parking area’ for food trucks… lots of yummy smells, occasional leavings on the ground, and LOTS of people stopping to pet him. All in all, a happy-dog place.

Bark! Sensha spotted another dog and said hello.

Dog of the Day: Satchmo the Bouvier Des Flandres

Well, the only post I have on the blog prior to this that was marked ‘Bouvier’ is, shall we say, a hotly disputed identification. (And is almost certainly wrong… but I do try to go with what the dog owner tells me when I get an ID from them, so I’m going to leave it the way it is.)

However, I’m a bit more certain of this guy. The ears are so distinctive! However, the color is apparently a mismark, so this pup would never make it in the dog show circuit. Lucky for him!

Edit: How’s this for serendipity? I posted Satchmo on Thursday. On Saturday I ran into my second Bouvier ever (pictures coming soon), and his dad knew the owner of this one! His name is Satchmo. Also, apparently the source I got my information from above is wrong, because Satchmo is a two-time champion in the dog show circuit. It couldn’t happen to a fluffier pup.

White Bouvier des Flandres

Assuming this is one, they’re cute! I wonder if the beard is really darker, or if this pup just got a drink recently.

I want to play with those ears. Flickflickflick. I would probably annoy that dog no end. 🙂

Double Dog Day: A Pair of Poms

Two of a kind, except I think the bottom one didn’t have quite such a pronounced underbite as his friend there.

Two Orange Fluffy Pomeranians

Wonder why such an impressive underbite is such a common problem in dogs?

Dog of the Day: Quigley the Australian Shepherd Mix Puppy

I just realized something: aside from Saturday’s otters, my entire last week has been puppies. I am in terrible danger of spoiling you people.

So, what should I do about this? Why, do it just a little bit more, of course! Here’s Quigley, the wiggly Australian shepherd mix, all of age 5. (I’m not sure what the deal is with all the puppies we have been running into recently, but I’m not in a rush to look that particular gift horse in the mouth.)

Edit: Months. 5 months. That’s why he’s still a puppy. Thank you, Rose Marie.

Small Red-and-White Australian Shepherd Mix Puppy

He reminds me a bit of Watson. Which is to say, ‘adorable’. If not quite as fluffy and a little whiter.

I believe the pup was actually fixated on Autumn, which gave me a chance to take some pictures without him licking the lens. Much.

I love that tail.

Dog of the Day: Tyson the Giant Schnauzer Puppy

Tyson was a rescue puppy from someone who decided that ear cropping was a great idea, and tried the DIY version. Really badly. With any luck, someone cropped that person’s ears in retaliation. Anyway, I decided that it was a bit awkward to ask if they’d named her Tyson because of the boxer’s ear-biting habit. So I’ll let y’all make up your own minds about that.

Tyson was not quite used to the big city yet. All the people, all the noise, and everyone wanting to pet her.

How can you have a schnauzer puppy without grumpy-old-man eyebrows?

Dog of the Day: Henry the Miniature Golden Retriever (Cocker Spaniel Mix) Puppy

A 12-week-old puppy for your Sunday delectation. Autumn and I ran into Henry and his mom when we were out on Polk Street for dinner, and our heads exploded with cuteness.

Henry is the product of attempts to breed a miniature golden retriever, by crossing in cocker spaniels. Some breeders call them ‘comfort retrievers’, and some call them ‘miniature golden retrievers’, but whatever you call them, I’ll take three.

Adorable Miniature Golden Retriever Puppy

It was tough getting any pictures of Henry at all. I just wanted to drop the camera and give him some love.

Training treats. He really was being surprisingly good, for a twelve-week-old puppy.

A winning strategy: sit at a sidewalk cafe with a dog that cute, instantly make friends with everyone who walks by.

Every single person who walked by while we were there stopped to pet the puppy. And two other people stopped to take pictures.
