That’s what I have down in my notes. ‘Maggie the Labradoodle with Eyebrows, 8.’ Glorious eyebrows!
These two were obviously having an absolutely lovely afternoon when I poked my camera into the mix.
Black dogs in the sun. I eagerly await the day a camera is invented that can take good pictures of them.
You can’t really see her right eyebrow (against her own fur), but look at the one that’s sticking out and visible against the pathway in the background. That’s one hell of an eyebrow.
Travis’s mom thinks he’s a ‘mystery hound’. I think he’s adorable. (Could be a red-tick coonhound? Maybe Autumn will venture an opinion. If he is a red-tick coonhound, he’s our first one!)
Edit: Dammit. I ran into Travis’s mom this evening, and told her I’d posted him, and then I get home and am ready for bed and check and WordPress didn’t post. AGAIN. I hate that!
It’s not just boxers… a lot of hounds seem to always look a little confused too.
I think I may have been making use of my ‘hidden squeaky toy’ in this picture. I keep one in my backpack, and reach around behind me and squeeze it when necessary. It’s a surprisingly useful tactic.
Travis is very photogenic. He’s got a lot of great poses.
Can’t tell if he’s barking or howling.
One of those breeds I can never spell. And calling them ‘cheapskate bay retrievers’ is pretty insulting, it turns out.
She’s ten years old, and happy as they come.
Don’t see nearly enough of this breed around. They’re neat.
Meet Buster. Boxers normally look confused. Blue-eyed boxers look totally bewildered. I just wanted to kneel down give him a hug and tell him not to worry about it, because he was in good hands.
I ran into Buster in my neighborhood, but haven’t seen him before or since. It’s amazing to me that there are still more dogs living near me that I haven’t seen, after three years.

I am crushed that this picture came out so ridiculously blurry. If it weren’t, it would hands down be one of my favorite pictures ever. So I’m posting it anyway. 😛

I ran out of cats, so I dropped by Pets Unlimited (on Fillmore in SF) and asked if I could take some cat pictures, and they were happy to oblige. They had a couple of FIV+ cats, which they often have difficulty adopting out, even though FIV+ cats can still live long and healthy lives. (But you shouldn’t take an FIV+ cat if you already have an FIV- cat, or plan to let your cat play outside.)
So today, meet Whiskers. Whiskers is a playful kitty, most of the time, although I interrupted him at his dinner and in his post-dinner torpor, so all he wanted to do while I was there was lie around and have his ears and cheeks rubbed.
Those eyes.
I knew lighting was going to be a problem, so I brought a couple of lights and played around with my flash. Neither of them was useful in the slightest.
Such a cute nose! Half pink, half grey, and all adorable.
I can sympathize. I don’t want to run around like a crazy man just after I eat either.
Who could resist that face?
Watching these two play was a kick. Not only do they look very similar, but they also play very similarly. And yes, that goldendoodle is ‘Doug the Dog‘.
I have never seen a goldendoodle with fur that floofly before. Looks like a golden sheepdog.

Olive is practicing to be a ruminant.
With any luck, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
I ran into Olive a couple of times over the last few weeks, and I can tell you that she is even prettier in person than she is in pictures, and super-sweet to boot. The fur color is hard to describe, and not terribly well-represented in these pictures (too much sun!). It’s like she’s got a thousand different shades of gold going on all at the same time. It’s so gorgeous, and I’ve almost never seen anything like it. (I keep feeling like I have, but I can’t remember when or where.) If any of the dog-genetics-experts are still poking their heads into this blog ever, maybe we can get someone to weigh in on what’s going on here.
Oh, mom said that she might have some terrier and cocker spaniel in her, as well as Lab and poodle, if that helps any.
We’ll be seeing more of Olive tomorrow, along with a friend.
Olive was utterly enthralled by her new toy. She was running around and showing it to everyone.
This was not Olive playing fetch with the stick. This was Olive dancing around because she was so happy about having the stick. Also: this gives a bit more detail on the coat color… maybe it’s dark brown at the bottom and light at the tips? I’ve seen that with other colors but not with tan/brown.
Most Americans spend tens of thousands of dollars every year on stuff that does not make them nearly as happy as this stick makes this dog.
I am pretty sure the one on the right is Lucy.
(If anyone had ever told me that getting older was accompanied by this much stress, I would have done a lot more to try to avoid it. In the two months of July and August, it looks like I am going to rack up six or more doctor’s appointments, and at least three and possibly as many as five dentist’s appointments. Eeeeeeeegh! Kids, eat right, floss every day, and get lots of exercise! Trust me on this one.)

I have no firm evidence for my choice of breed here: mom and dad had no idea. But I’m going to go with Catahoula mixes, because some of them are brindles and these two just kinda look right.
Yaoyao means ‘far away’ in Chinese… not sure if that’s where it came from. Cheche apparently means a lot of things in a lot of different languages, but I prefer to think that it comes from an African language, and means ‘small thing’. Cheche is the male, with the splash of white on his chest.
I vaguely recall that these two were mostly out of energy, after a long day of running around.
Well, if I ever make an ‘alphabet of dogs’, I’ve got L taken care of.

Autumn and I call them ‘airplane ears’ because they stick out to the side like wings! Not sure what this gal is mixed with… could be lab.

I love dogs that do this. We usually call it ‘bunny butt’ but in this case it looks more like ‘lion loin’.
Okay, now that’s just goofy. Maybe she’s half pit bull and half seal?
