Dog of the Day: Paddington the Pomeranian/Dachshund Mix Puppy

Pretty cute! The breed mix is a guess, based on head shape and ear floof, and that a similar-looking puppy pupped… er, popped up here a while back. Similarly adorable, I’d say. When this picture was taken (last September) Paddington was 5 months old, and was congenitally unable to stop wagging his tail.

Note big eyes, poofly ears, blurred tail.

Pomeranian/Dachshund Mix

Funny look for a dachsund mix, with those long legs, but the head looks SOOO dachshund-y!

Daddy loves his pup. These two were a photographer's nightmare, though. Every picture, either he's looking down at the pup...

...or the pup is hiding his face against dad!

Site News: SOPA

I’m not going to black out my site for it (edit: okay, I found an easy way to black out my site for a day, and so I am doing so after all!), or modify my logo (because I still haven’t figured out how to get the damn thing back up there!) but you can count me as one of the many sites that’s against SOPA/PROTECT-IP. Having read the provisions of it, even a humble little web site that posts only its own content and doesn’t have a ‘foreign’ domain name, like mine, could well be impacted by the law.

I know one of my rules on here is ‘no politics’, but I don’t think it’s playing politics to come out against a law like this. After all, when was the last time the major Tea Party groups, the ACLU, MoveOn.org, and pretty much all of the left-wing and right-wing blogs on the Internet were all on the same side of one issue? (All opposed, of course.)

Please, if you live in the United States, find out where your Senators and Congressperson stand on this and then contact the ones who are for it and tell them that you oppose it strongly. And, if you have time, contact the ones who are against it and thank them. (If you live in San Francisco, I’ll save you the trouble: Rep. Pelosi came out strongly against SOPA/PIPA. However, Senators Feinstein and Boxer are both co-sponsors of PIPA in the Senate. Please contact them and make your voice heard!)

Tomorrow I’ll return you to your regularly scheduled doggies.

Dog of the Day: Fergi the Terrified Australian Cattle Dog/German Shorthaired Pointer Mix

Poor Fergi. Someone was pretty mean to her at some time in the past, and she’s still scared of everybody. Dogs like that make me want to hug them and tell them that everything’s going to be all right, but of course, that’s the whole problem: you can’t get within ten feet.

German Shorthaired Pointer/Australian Cattle Dog Mix

Fergi needed a lot of reassurance, even though I was staying around ten feet away.

German Shorthaired Pointer/Australian Cattle Dog Mix

I wasn't the only one she was scared of. Other passers-by were also potential threats.

German Shorthaired Pointer/Australian Cattle Dog Mix

Look at that face. Who could bear to hurt that face?

German Shorthaired Pointer/Australian Cattle Dog Mix

When mom wasn't holding her, she tended to put her back against a wall.

Dog of the Day: Lucy the Miniature Schnauzer

Got these pictures on January first, so Lucy is a New Year’s Dog!

Miniature Schnauzer

Just about the lightest colored schnauzer I've ever seen. And what ridiculous bunny ears!

Miniature Schnauzer

Lucy was being a bit loud. Mom wasn't pleased, but I liked it just fine.

Miniature Schnauzer

Funny, the eyebrows aren't nearly as pronounced on the light-colored schnauzers.

Miniature Schnauzer

Schnauze like you've never schnauzed before!

Dog of the Day: Argos the Kerry Blue Terrier

Argos is named for Odysseus’s dog in the Odyssey, the one that was the first to greet (and recognize) Odysseus when he finally returned home. What an awesome dog name! (Although Autumn maintains that, as an Irish dog, he should have been given an Irish name, like Bran or Sceolang, the dogs of Finn Mac Cool. But who the heck can pronounce Sceolang?)

Argos is 10, and still going strong. And congratulations to him, for being DoSF’s first Kerry blue!

Kerry Blue Terrier

I've never even seen a Kerry blue before. They're pretty! And huge, for a wire-haired terrier type.

Kerry Blue Terrier

Kerry blues apparently were originally hunters of small game, but eventually became herding and guard dogs as well. Versatile!

Kerry Blue Terrier

There's a distinct resemblance to a giant schnauzer.

Caturday Supplement: KITTY JAIL!

This kitty must have done something bad, right? Otherwise he wouldn’t be in jail!

Come on. You know you want to give him a pardon.

Cat in a Cage

These are 'backstage' pictures from Macy's during the Humane Society store window period.

Cat in a Cage

This kitty had a really pretty meow. Just a little short 'mew!' Like, 'oh hi, I'm here.'

Cat in a Cage

I usually avoid memes on here, but 'I'm firin mah lazer!" seems oddly appropriate.

Double Dog Day: Corgi Teaser

I’m a little low on time today, so here’s a teaser for a group of corgis that I will be posting sometime soon. Dad doesn’t seem to be entirely happy with them, I think because the one on his back really isn’t supposed to be rolling in whatever he’s rolling in.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis

If corgis can't make your day a little brighter, then things must be dismal indeed.

Double Dog Day: Boston Terrier and Labrador Retriever Mix

An interesting pair. They were staring at the store that (presumably) mom or dad was in. Fixedly. As if, if they took their eyes off of it for just a moment, mom/dad would vanish and never be heard from again.

Boston Terrier with Labrador Retriever Mix

This is the two of them staring right past me.

And then I walked around and photographed them from the side.

Dog of the Day: Rue the Silver Labrador Retriever

Ran into this sweetheart outside of the GLBT History Museum in the Castro district. She’s one of those funky newfangled colors for Labrador retrievers, but she’s still the same old Lab at heart. (And thank goodness for that!)

Silver Labrador Retriever

Maybe I just see so many black, brown, and yellow labs that I am desensitized to them, but I think the silver color is unusually gorgeous.

Silver Labrador Retriever

Rue was mistress of a thousand expressions, most of them goofy. Sadly, it was really grey outside and most of my pictures came out blurry.

Silver Labrador Retriever

Okay, that's a pretty goofy face.

Silver Labrador Retriever

Some dogs do this as a hint to where they want to be petted. It never hurts to ask, huh?

Double Dog Day: Gordon Setter and Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie Mix

The latter is just a (very) humble guess by moi; the former is, well, less humble and less of a guess.

San Francisco DogFest 2011. Yes, last April. Hey, I have some pictures that are even older than that left to post.

Gordon Setter and Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie Mix

These two were having a grand old time.

Gordon Setter and Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie Mix

I can't tell what these expressions signify. (Is it just me or did the mixed breed dog just lose his ears?)
