Dog of the Day: Landseer Newfoundland

I took about twenty pictures of this guy, and only one turned out … marginally all right.  But I think he’s worth posting a bit of a blurry picture, because…  well… look at him.  He’s just ridiculous.

He was, in fact, big enough to put his chin on the counter of the pet store and beg for treats.  And big enough to go browsing in the allegedly dog-proof barrels of dog treats at said pet store.  Although he did not do the latter, being a well-mannered gentleman.  And he had a partner who was just about identical in every way.

Edit: I am informed by a usually reliable source that this is in fact a Landseer Newfoundland, and not a English Mastiff.

Let's go to ludicrous size!

Adam’s Double Dog Day: Keeshund and Brittany!

To make up for the lack of a post yesterday, and the late post today, today’s a double dog day!  These two are obviously pretty close friends.

Someone worth listening to just said 'sit!'

Someone worth listening to just said 'sit!'

However, after this, the Brittany steadfastly refused to pose for the camera.  And the Keeshund really stole the show.

I think he's about ready for his yearly shearing.

Adam’s Dog of the Day: Great Dane

This grand old gentleman (lady?) probably doesn’t deserve quite such a goofy introduction.  Sadly (for him, not for us), this is the only shot I have of him.

As always, if this is your dog, or you know anything about him or her, do let us know in the comments.

Dog of the Day: Christmas Corgis!

Here to wish you Merry Christmas are a pair of Cardigan Welsh Corgis! Even though one is muzzled (poor guy) I have met both of these guys several times, and I assure you that they are both friendly, happy dogs.

Leave a Christmas dog story in the comments, if you have one.

Seen in San Francisco

One of the reasons I love San Francisco is that the graffiti artists are generally smarter than the advertising agencies.

Adam’s Dog of the Day: Basking Dachshund

Today’s random dog pic is a Dachshund basking in the sun.  This introduces one of my favorite canine positions, what I like to call the ‘puppy speed bump’.  You’ll be seeing more of these, for sure.

As always, if today’s dog is yours, or you think you know anything about it, feel free to pipe up in the comments.

Adam’s Dog of the Day: Australian Shepherd

Today’s random dog is a gorgeous blue merle Australian Shepherd, taken outside of the Crossroads Cafe in SOMA.  As with all random dogs, if this is yours, or you know whose it is, pipe up in the comments!

Featured Dog: Rocky

I ran into Rocky down in the Castro, and I promised I’d make him my first Featured Dog.  Why?  Because he’s up for adoption, and because he’s a happy, obedient, cuddly dog who has a heck of a lot to offer to the right person.  I wish I’d been able to get some better pictures, but it was raining and dark, and the iPhone (especially the newer ones) doesn’t do so well with dingy weather.  But trust me, he’s a gorgeous dog.  His foster mom is pretty sure he’s part Catahoula, and I agree that he does look like a  Catahouligan, as it were.

If you like his looks, and you are looking for a dog near San Francisco, you can get in touch with the fine folks at Wonder Dog Rescue.  And don’t be surprised if you see Rocky’s picture here again in a few months… right now we’ve had a total of about six people view this blog.  Have to put him up again when a bit more of an audience can see him.

This is my good side. Aw, who'm I kidding... they're all good sides!

Adam’s Dog of the Day: A Delighted Fluffy Corgi!

So, here’s how things are going to work: I’m going to post a picture or two of a particular dog every day.  I call these ‘random dog pics’, and they’re pretty much what the sign says: pictures of some dog I’ve encountered on my travels through San Francisco.  If I have more than a couple of pictures of a dog, or know its name, I’ll make it a Dog of the Day instead.  (More about these later.)

I promise to post at least one random dog pic every day, starting… well… sometime soon.  Hopefully starting now, but getting the software set up has taken rather longer than I expected, and so has doing some of the necessary photo editing.  So I won’t promise that there won’t be another few dogless days ahead of you before this thing is really up and running.

So, to start things off, here’s a picture of a ridiculously happy corgi.  Of course, anyone familiar with corgis knows that that phrase is redundant.

Dog blog! Dog blog!

Welcome to The Dogs of San Francisco.  Shortly, I will organize this better, and put up a page explaining what this is doing here and why you should care.

In the mean time, have a picture of a dog.

I like when people take my pic- ooh! Is that food?
