Caturday Supplement: The First of This Year’s Macy’s Kitties

The Macy’s display this year is quite frustrating for me. I walk past Macy’s in the morning at about 8:45 AM on the way to work, but can hang around until 9. This year the display is starting at 9:30. Until the week before Christmas (when I’ll be gone) when it starts at 7. And by the time I’m done with work, it’s already dark outside and impossible to get good pictures. Bah. Hopefully I can squeeze in some time there on weekends.

Cat tails are awesome. I love the way cats wrap them around themselves.

Just a pretty kitty. Wouldn't play with my finger through the glass, though.

Dog of the Day: Basenji Mix?

Well, he kind of looks like a basenji to me. Perhaps we can get frequent reader M.C., proud Basenji cuddler and owner of her own dog blog, to confirm or deny.

I've noticed there are two kinds of leashed dogs: the ones that mellow, and the ones that, well, are 'always at the end of their leash'.

The racing stripe is unusually complete. It goes all the way to the back of his head.

So aerodynamic! And with the racing stripe too. This must be one fast dog!

Dog of the Day: Ridiculous Underbite with Attached Pug (Mix?)

Pug! Or possibly pug mix! Either way, despite his ridiculous underbite, he was neither repugnant nor particularly pugnacious. Pug-a-licious!

Super-curly tail. Was just as much fun to straighten out as you might expect. Yay!

One of those dogs who looks dynamic and active even when he's standing still.

This is his 'hopeful' expression, by the way.

Cats do this all the time, but I've rarely seen dogs do it. He was in utter ecstasy.

He has a decided preference as to where he wants to be petted. Flank? Nope. Head? Nope. Tummy? Nope. Back? YESYESYESYESYES!

Someone knows what he wants, and gets it when he can.

Dog of the Day: Wire-Haired Dachshund Mix

I feel like a pupil who hasn’t prepared properly for a test. This guy reminds me of something besides dachshund, but I can’t for the life of me think of what it is, except that it’s a medium-sized breed. Help?

Whatever he is, he sure is dignified.

Aww. So dignified. He looks like he could be a Senator.

Dog of the Day: Bernese Mountain Dog

I haven’t posted a berninator in quite some time. I’ve been saving this one up since the Swiss Dog Day, and now that we’re into the short days, and nearly into December, I think we deserve a little brain-melting cuteness.

Autumn was just saying that she wanted a Berner yesterday. Really, how could you not?

This is about the sternest face I've ever seen on a Berner.

I am going to post a few more pictures later tonight. I want to make a bit of a collage, but I don't have time to do that sort of thing at work.

Dog of the Day: Maddie the Dachshund Mix

Maddie’s 8, but she’s still got that awkward puppy look to her.

The woman walking Maddie was wearing a t-shirt for one of the local pet supply stores.

I figured maybe Maddie was a foster, but no, turns out she was an employee but was out walking her own dog.

Maddie knows several tricks. This is one of them.

Aww. Maddie is the queen of dainty paw placement.

This was a trick Mom didn't teach her: when she met a new friend, she'd take her leash over to him to say hi.

Needless to say, it is ridiculously cute.

Dog of the Day: Wilson the Karst Shepherd/Australian Shepherd

Karst shepherd? That’s a new one on me. I like it, though!

(I think he was mixed with Australian shepherd, but it might be Australian cattle dog too… my note just says ‘Aussie.’ Also, sorry for the, *ahem*, slightly late post. Holiday weekends make me forgetful.)
