Dog of the Day: Lexi the Min-Pin, with Guest Star Daisy-Mae

This is Lexi the Miniature Pinscher, with her play buddy (and our old friend) Daisy (aka Daisy-Mae) the bluetick beagle.

An afternoon romp in the grass with a friend.

Min-Pins always look like chihuahuas to me, but apparently they were bred from Italian greyhounds and dachshunds. Go figure.

That just looks like a missing finger waiting to happen. Sharp little teeth!

There, that's better.

The two of them got pretty energetic, play-wise. But they were definitely still having fun.

Although it sometimes LOOKED a little bit scary.

Dog of the Day: Great Gallumphing Goldendoodle!

A golden dog with the speed of a muppet, a cloud of dust, and a hearty ‘Hey, get back here!’ The lone doodle gallumphs again!

I really do wonder how many of Jim Henson's friends had big fuzzy dogs.

I never got quite this much joy out of running, even back when my doctor let me run.

Dog of the Day: Coydog

Another shot of someone from a while back. I hope at some point I run across him with my SLR… he moves so fast and so erratically that I haven’t managed to get many good shots of him at all.

I’ve seen some videos of coyotes, and this guy does do a fair imitation of a coyote dance. Which is only fair, I guess, given his parentage.

I've heard that coyotes can adjust well to urban living... guess that goes double for coydogs, since this guy seems pretty happy.

Dog of the Day: Hullo (Hoo-low) the Catahoula Leopard Dog

Our first full-blooded Hula-Hula Cat Dog! Apparently a rescue dog, but well-enough behaved, and loves everybody. I seem to recall that Hullo needs an enormous amount of exercise, though.

This guy would make a fabulous running companion. You could run along next to him and watch his ears flopping up and down out of the corner of your eye. Flop flop flop!

Every once in a while I still get a little weirded out about living in a city where there are palm trees.

Could have done without the drool, but oh well.

Dog of the Day: Tired Lab

This old guy has still got plenty of get up and go left, when he needs it. But, like many another old campaigner, he also knows how to catch sleep when he gets the chance.

One of the great things about most dogs: when they relax, they relax, period. No staying up late at night worrying about tomorrow.

Don't worry: that's just a wart. He's fine. If a little bit low on energy.

Dog of the Day: Nani the Purebred… Something

The woman playing with Nani when I ran across her knew she was a pedigreed dog… but didn’t know her breed. I don’t even have a guess: flat-coats don’t have white markings, and she looks wrong for a border collie.

Anyone have any guesses?

Added later: Hmm… for a purebred dog, Nani sure looks an awful lot like these pups.

Well, whatever she is, she certainly is sleek. And black and white is fashionable anywhere, at any time.

Dog of the Day: Watson the Chihuahua/Dachshund (Encore)

The pictures of Watson that I posted before weren’t bad, but I like these new ones more. He really is one cute pup.

His dad (a friend of mine) posted a link to his previous pictures on reddit asking people to see if they could figure out what breed Watson is. It multiplied my average daily traffic by a factor of ten. The consensus was ‘chihuahua/dachshund’, but there was a very vocal minority suggesting that he had some Nova Scotia duck-tolling retriever in him. The coloration sure is similar, anyway.
